This course provides a rigorous, in-depth study of geometry with an emphasis on methods of proof and the formal language of mathematics. Topics will include, but are not limited to, the structure of geometry, separation properties, angle concepts, triangles, quadrilaterals, proofs, perpendicularity and parallelism in a plane and in space, similar polygons, circles and spheres, constructions, area and volume, coordinate geometry, and transformational geometry. This course will include three projects to be submitted through Canvas. Course fee includes textbook. Prerequisites. Students must have 530 or above on the Math and Evidence Based Reading and Writing sections of the PSAT, an 87% or above in Honors Algebra I, and permission from their Algebra I teacher as well as the math department head.
All students enrolling in Geometry Honors Online must, along with their parents, agree to the following statement: “I understand that all assignments must be submitted electronically by the due dates and that the final exam test must be taken on campus. The exam will be scheduled with the instructor. Any date changes must be arranged in advance. I will have Internet access for the duration of the course. I understand that I will be dropped from the course if I miss more than two assignment deadlines. I understand that the course consists of 8 weeks and approximately 120 hours will need to be devoted to the course. Students who drop are issued a refund, minus a 20% processing charge.”
