When you walk into Lake Highland’s Lower School classrooms, children are discovering new concepts, collaborating, and problem-solving with hands-on activities. In addition to igniting a love of learning, we celebrate each student’s unique talents, interests, and abilities by fostering the innovative spirit of every child.
In addition to our core curriculum, Lake Highland provides engaging and enriching co-curricular experiences to broaden creativity and spark interest in a variety of subjects.
Early coding and robotics begins in PreK when students discover how to code ozobots and other directional robots and extends to the upper grade levels in Lower School when students learn to design, build, and program.
Students in PreK-5th grades build musicianship through singing, listening, dancing, improvising, analyzing, and creating music every day. In 4th-6th grades, students can expand their musical study by participating in chorus, band, or strings.
Students in PreK-5th grade will explore the creative process, basic art media and techniques, such as drawing, painting, collage, ceramics, printmaking, color theory, and sculpture. Art criticism, aesthetics, and art history are also integral parts of the class. Sixth graders are given the option of a Studio Art elective where those who have a passion for art will increase technical skills and develop a sophisticated approach to process and subject matter.
From early library exposure through storytime to using our expansive library for research in the latter grades, every level of Lower School visits the library weekly.

As parents of three young children, it was incredibly important for us to find a school we trusted with all aspects of their social and academic lives. We have found that in Lake Highland.
