Innovation

Fueling Curiosity and Driving Exploration

By exploring the latest advancements in science and technology, Lake Highland’s Innovation Institute helps Highlanders engage their curiosity through hands-on learning experiences and enriching co-curricular activities. LHP faculty members frequently participate in professional development to remain at the cutting edge of innovation.

Immersive Project-Based Learning

Beginning in Lower School and continuing to Upper School, students engage in project-based learning cultivating critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication skills. They also develop leadership and entrepreneurial skills by addressing real-world problems and presenting solutions to live audiences. Utilizing the latest technology and state-of-the-art resources, students are actively involved in their learning, preparing them for fulfilling careers.

Inspiring Creativity, Collaboration & Innovation

Opened in August 2023, the Porter Family Center for Innovation & Academics is an exceptional 71,000-square-foot facility that offers transformative spaces for Highlanders to learn, collaborate, problem-solve, and create. Some features of the Porter Family Center for Innovation & Academics include the Robotics Warehouse, Interactive Studio, HAZMAT Robotics, and ASPIRE program.

ASPIRE Program

The Advanced STEM Program emphasizing Internship and Research Experiences, or ASPIRE, matches highly motivated science and math Upper School students with leading researchers and professionals at research facilities in Central Florida.

Under the direction of professional mentors, students gain first-hand analytical and research skills comparable to those learned by undergraduate and graduate-level students. These in-depth partnership studies have resulted in the following:

  • Scientific discoveries
  • Highlanders listed as co-authors of articles in professional science journals
  • Presentations to scientific research panels

Lake Highland’s ASPIRE students win a significant number of top awards each year in local, regional, national, and international STEM competitions.
