Preparing Students for Lifelong Learning
Lake Highland’s College and Career Center provides a comprehensive college planning program from 9th through 12th grade. A team of nine full-time employees are dedicated to helping students plan for their futures one step at a time. All of LHP’s college counselors formerly worked in college admission offices, providing expert and unique insight for Highlanders as they pursue their collegiate dreams.

Highlander Highlight: Parent Brown Bag Lunch
Each spring, the College and Career Center hosts three lunch meetings for parents about trending topics in high schools and colleges. Please bring your lunch and join us for an informal discussion with experts on an array of important topics.
Freshman year
- Freshman Seminar: an 18-week course designed specifically for high school freshmen and led by school and college counselors
- Individual student and parent meetings with School Counselor
- Naviance Family Connection for College & Career Planning
Highlander Highlight: Freshman Planning Meeting
During this college planning meeting for ninth-grade parents, Highlander families hear from guest speakers, who have previously included Dr. Faye Felterman Tydlaska, Vice President of Enrollment Management and Marketing at Rollins College, and our own counselors. Topics include how to pave the way for success in high school.
Sophomore year
- The Sophomore Experience: provides guidance on how to start the college search

Highlander Highlight: Sophomore College Tour
Learning first-hand about the college visit experience, sophomores travel to two vastly different colleges/universities to complete a campus tour. Students gain valuable information on various college options and are able to ask questions to better understand their “best fit” school.
Junior year
- Individual student and parent meetings with college counselor to launch the college search process
- Meetings with college representatives

Highlander Highlight: The College Forum
Students and parents gain valuable insight into the application process from a panel of college admission professionals visiting from a variety of distinguished universities and colleges.
Senior year
- Application Boot Camp
- Senior Kick-Off Meeting for students and parents

- College Application Workshops (3–4 during first semester)

Highlander Highlight: Application Bootcamp
A four day intensive workshop to kick-start the college application process, where students complete up to 80% of the Common Application and Coalition Application, and develop strong essay drafts for college admission.
