Time Management Skills

Is there not enough time in the day to do everything you want?

Read on. . .

Good time management provides structure to your day and peace of mind.

Everyone has 24 hours each day and 168 hours each week to eat, sleep, work, relax, exercise, attend class, and study. There is nothing magical about getting the most from these hours; it just takes planning.

Techniques

Make a To Do List or Action List. Be realistic in your planning. Set realistic time lines and prioritize the list from most important to least important.

Use the daily planner provided by Lake Highland at the beginning of the school year. Record all timelines set by teachers. Check the teachers web page frequently to make sure your dates are the same as their's. Record appointments; due dates for tests, assignments and homework; study time; family time; free time; etc.

Work Smarter! Not Harder!

Stephen Covey, in his book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, suggests prioritizing your tasks in four classifications: urgent, important, not urgent, and not important.

Remember

Getting enough sleep is essential. Eight to ten hours of sleep per night is adequate rest for a high school student.

Having a healthy diet and drinking plenty of water makes you more alert during the day to keep on task.

Procrastination can sabotage your grade. Did you know that procrastination is the leading cause of cheating in high school?
