The HIGHLANDER Instructional Sports Clinics are after-school programs for Lower School students designed to develop young athletes in a variety of sports. Each clinic is led by an award-winning, highly qualified LHPS varsity coach. The coaches work with students to develop skill, teach technique, and inspire a passion for the sport they are playing. Every skill level is welcome. 

Below are the clinics currently offered. The clinics in red are active. The clinics in grey are not currently in progress, but may be later in the year. Space is limited to 24 students per clinic to ensure safety and personal attention. Follow the instructions below to register. Please note: LHPS is not able to accept walk-ons to participate in Lower School Sports Clinics.

All students must register to participate in the sport clinics of their choice. Register by clicking “Register Today” under the selected clinic below. 

If a clinic must be canceled due to inclement weather, we will notify registered students and parents via email. An announcement will also be posted below this image after the cancellations or delays are determined.

HIGHLANDER Baseball Clinic series – registration opens in Nov. after FALL Ball season 
In the LHPS baseball clinics, we teach the fundamentals of the game including batting, throwing, fielding, catching, base running as well as the mental aspects of baseball. These fundamentals apply to all skill sets, from the Little League player to the MLB player. Specific focus will be emphasized on the “small ball’ techniques of bunting, stealing bases and base running.  We teach situational baseball and knowing what to do with the ball before it is in play. Our players will be better prepared to be successful at their skill levels while learning in a positive environment.

About the Coach:
Coach Randy O’Neal has more than 11 years of coaching experience, working with high school to professional athletes. Head Varsity Baseball Coach since 2013, Coach O’Neal has been recognized as the 2012 Orange County High School Coach of the Year (COY) and Metro COY three times. He has led three LHPS teams to regional playoffs. In addition, Coach O’Neal played Major League Baseball as a right-handed pitcher for teams in Detroit, Atlanta, St. Louis, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. He is a graduate of the University of Central Florida and also played college ball for the University of Florida.

HIGHLANDER Flag Football Clinics - Register Today!
When: Tuesdays & Thursdays, starting from 4:00pm - 6:00pm
March 21, 23, 28, 30 April 4, 6 and April 7 if a make-up day is required.

This six-week clinic is for 4th - 6th graders. The clinic is designed to teach and improve throwing, catching, kicking, punting, speed and agility skills in for player. All players will be taught the fundamentals of the sport so they can compete with other athletes in a non-contact environment.

  • Where should students meet: After school the students will check-in with the clinic student / coach at the picnic table between the cafeteria and upper school library. The clinic student / coach will walk the students over to the Lake Highland Athletic Complex at 3:45.
  • Pick up: Parents should pick-up their students at 6:00pm at the (LHAC) 
  • Price: $140.00.  Mouth piece is required and snack is not provided.

About the coach:
Coach Chris Barber has been a teacher at Lake Highland for 16 years and became the Defensive Coordinator for Varsity Football in 2014. Coach Barber graduated from North Carolina A&T and played for several NFL teams. He was a star defensive back for the Dallas Cowboys, Tampa Bay Bucs, and Cincinnati Bengals. Coach Barber also played professional arena football for our own Orlando Predators.

C.E.L.T.I.C. About the Coach:
Coach Jason Vallery has been teaching and coaching at Lake Highland for 16 years and brings over 25 years of camp and clinic coaching experience from the elementary to college level. In 2012, he received the Lake Highland Coach of Character Award, and in 2014, was the Florida Dairy Farmers Boys’ Basketball Coach of the Year. While serving and leading the Boys Basketball Program for the last 15 years, the Highlanders have experienced tremendous success on and off the court winning 6 district titles, 3 regional titles, and 2 state championships. 

Coach Joel Berry has been coaching basketball for 20+ years on many levels, including the elite AAU level with his son, former Highlander and current UNC player Joel Berry II. His coaching style focuses on mental and physical toughness on and off the court, building character, and teaching life skills. Coach Berry also coaches Varsity Football, Varsity Track, and is the Director for Celtic Basketball, an after-school developmental program at Lake Highland.

HIGHLANDER Soccer Clinics – Spring 2017
During the HIGHLANDER soccer clinics, co-ed players develop core skills and practice tactics to enhance ball control, individual defending, shooting, and passing pattern. Players cultivate confidence and success as they are challenged to grow together as athletes sharing in the joys and relationships soccer provides! 
Note: Students will be supervised by a coach in aftercare until the soccer clinic begins at 3:35 pm. Players will be walked to the LHAC by an LHPS coach.

About the Coaches:
Coach Ashley Stamper has always loved the sport of soccer. As a collegiate Division 1 soccer player, Coach Stamper received the All American and All-SEC Team honors at Auburn University. Her contributions helped Auburn dominate the SEC West and win the overall SEC Championship in 2002. Coach Stamper still holds the record for consecutive starts as a defender at Auburn University. 
2016 is Coach Stamper’s first year as LHPS’s Head Varsity Soccer Coach after assisting for 8 years. During the last eight years, her leadership has helped the LHPS girls team win District Championships in 2008 and 2013, as well as the Regional Championships in 2011. 

HIGHLANDER Volleyball clinics – Spring 2017

Designed to teach volleyball in a positive, fun atmosphere, The HIGHLANDER Volleyball clinics build skills, including passing, setting, and hitting. Players apply the fundamental techniques they learn during game-like simulations, with the goal of developing each participant into a more complete player. All levels of experience are welcome, and students will be grouped according to their skill level.

About the Coach:
Coach Erin Fleming’s legacy of volleyball excellence dates back to her Upper School years, when she played on the LHPS varsity team that won 3 consecutive state championships. As a senior, she was recognized as LHPS’s Athlete of the Year. After graduating from Lake Highland in 2007, Coach Fleming continued her volleyball career at the University of Florida, where she contributed to UF’s run of 17 consecutive SEC Championships.

Coach Fleming returned to Lake Highland in 2010 as a coach for the girls’ volleyball team. Under her leadership, LHPS achieved 3 District Championships, participated in 6 regional playoffs, and was ranked 2nd in the state in 2013. Also in 2013, Coach Fleming was honored as the District 5A Coach of the Year and started the first LHPS boys’ volleyball team.
