For over 30 years ActionQuest has consistently delivered high quality, expedition-based summer programs for teenagers. Through hands-on experimental learning and adventure travel throughout the world, we have successfully ignited the inherent leadership skills within thousands of young adults. You will live on sailing yachts with a crew of 8 to 12 teens your age. Within this close-knit team, you develop strong friendships by conquering daily challenges. Everyone plays a part in running the vessel, with roles and responsibilities shifting daily. One day you may be skipper, the next day chef, and perhaps, navigator the next. The Art institute of Boston-Young Artist Residency Program

This intensive program of four-weeks of courses and image making is designed to offer a professional art college experience and open pathways to a career in art or design. Students study with college professors and graduates of AIB. Meritas Family of Schools will be hosting an exciting summer program at Balliol College, Oxford. Students invited to participate in this program will take part in a two week Aspen-style seminar entitled Meeting the Challenges of Democracy. Distinguished teachers from Meritas schools will lead seminars on democratic theory and the cultural challenges of instituting democracy in non-western countries. While participating in this program, students will also have the rare opportunity to meet with Oxford admission staff and undergraduates to discuss life and admissions at Balliol College, one of the oldest and largest of Oxford’s colleges (established in 1263). In addition, regular trips and enriching activities will be arranged for each afternoon, as well as on the final weekend, to tour historical and architectural landmarks at various locations across England. Students will also have the opportunity to visit famous libraries and museums, take a boat ride down the Thames, and visit Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament in London. Our students will surely walk away from this wonderful educational and cultural experience with a greater appreciation of the world around them!

Summer in New York City, a Pre-College Program at Barnard College of Columbia University, offers young men and women a unique opportunity to sample pre-college courses while exploring NYC both in and out of the classroom. Our campus is located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, on a beautiful four-acre, residential campus. Students will learn from dynamic faculty and take classes that hone their critical reading and writing skills. Courses are available in a variety of intriguing subjects each designed to open their minds to new possibilities. Their studies may take them backstage on Broadway or to City Hall to meet with city leaders. The faculty is encouraged to use Manhattan as the ideal laboratory for exploring ideas. Beyond the classroom students have the chance to explore Central Park, the skyscrapers of Midtown, the High Line, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and a myriad of other museums and sites. Students also have the opportunity to participate in workshops designed to prepare them for their college search and applications as well as to explore career choices by visiting workplaces of varying types around New York City.

The New England Center for Investigative Reporting, based at Boston University’s College of Communication, is again offering a unique Investigative Journalism Workshop for High School students. This program would be a perfect fit for your students who are interested in journalism or writing. The two-week program will give participants hands-on and academic training in investigative reporting and the chance to work on investigative stories that could be published in school newspapers or in major media outlets in New England. Students will spend two-weeks on the BU campus participating in investigative workshops led by university faculty, as well as award-winning local and national journalists.

BIMA and Genesis teens want more out of their summer. They are ready to be challenged. They want to create, rather than consume. Genesis challenges participants to explore questions of Jewish, communal and personal identity through hands-on-coursework, social action projects and community-based learning experiences. At BIMA, talented musicians, dancers, singers, visual artists, writers and actors spend a month learning with professional artists exploring their Jewish identities and making lifelong friends.

If you’re looking to experience the world, climb aboard. Since 1993, Broadreach has taken over 12,000 middle school, high school and college students on adventures abroad. Their 60+ summer adventure learning programs include marine biology, scuba, sailing, language immersion, science and medicine, community service, outdoor skills and leadership adventures. Their trips travel to more than 35 countries, visiting extraordinary destinations in the Caribbean, Central and South America, Canada, Australia, China, India, South Africa, Egypt, France, the Solomon Islands and Fiji. Many Broadreach programs qualify for college credit and all incorporate a community service component ranging from 5-55 hours. Multiple certifications including PADI scuba certifications, IYT sailing certifications and Wilderness First Responder are offered, and trips are 14-31 days in length in June, July and August. The Carleton Liberal Arts Experience (CLAE) is designed to introduce the benefits of a liberal arts education to students who have just completed their sophomore year of high school. This highly selective, weeklong program allows students to take classes from Carleton professors, live on campus, and learn what it takes to be a successful college-bound student. A CLAE Scholar is a student who excels when given the opportunity. Students of African American descent or students interested in African American Culture are encouraged to apply for CLAE. The National Institute of American history and Democracy (NIAHD), a joint project of the College of William and Mary and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, is pleased to offer this highly successful Pre-Collegiate Summer program to high school students who are rising juniors, rising seniors, and graduating seniors. Where can you go to find the past? Whose past is it anyway? If you are at least a sophomore in High School, you have an opportunity this summer to travel back in time to discover America as it was between the founding of the first successful British colony at Jamestown in 1607 and the end of the American Revolution. Or choose to begin with Washington’s victory over Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown in 1781 and continue on through the end of the American Civil War in 1865. For three weeks this summer, we will relentlessly pursue the intertwined, often tempestuous, stories of American men and women by visiting the places they lived, observing the things they touched, and by immersing ourselves in their stories as told to us by historians, archaeologists, and interpreters. The Oxbridge Academic Programs – Grades 9 – 12
This summer program now includes three programs in continental Europe for students in grades 9 to 12 at: L’Academie de Paris, L’Academie de France in Montpellier, and la Academia de Espana in Barcelona. All three programs are based on the belief that high school students can take full advantage of a European environment to immerse themselves in a foreign language and culture. There are three essential elements to the success of these programs. The first is the outstanding teaching, delivered by superbly qualified faculty using imaginative, hands-on methods. The second essential element is outstanding leadership. Each of the programs has a director who represents the very best in education. And the third essential element is the student body itself. Paris is one of the world’s most evocative and inspiring cities with a reputation for history and culture unmatched by any other European capital. The goal of L’Academie de Paris is a simple one: to ensure that every student experiences this unique quality of Paris so that he or she may be inspired to attain the highest levels of imagination and achievement, and to uphold the rich legacy that Paris passes on to all who spend time there. Students will reside in the Lycee Notre Dame de Sion, a top independent school in the 6th arrondissement adjacent to the southwest corner of the Luxembourg Gardens. The Eiffel Tower, the Rodin Museum, Notre Dame, and the Louvre, are all within walking distance. As with all of our programs, students will be selecting two courses.

There is one overarching aim for this program and that is to give students the fullest possible experience of French life, language and culture. Thus, the program is based in the beautiful, historical, and culturally rich city of Montpellier, with field trips to such places as Nimes and Carcassonne, and then travel to Paris for the three day finale of the program – the perfect culmination and celebration of your time in France. L’Academie de France is housed in the Lycee Notre Dame de la Merci, a boarding school in the heart of Montpellier. PreCollege Perspective is a four-week intensive that provides high school students with focused and challenging artistic experiences in a structured, rigorous program that integrates fundamental studio practice with major-specific immersion and a robust student life program. It is an opportunity to build your knowledge of techniques and media to strengthen your portfolio for college admission, scholarships, and other professional goals. During the program, representatives from Admissions and the Center for Career Services offer insight and information about admissions processes, portfolio content and career choices.
SCAD Pre-College: Rising Star

This challenging five week is available to rising high school seniors who are ready for a summer college experience. Students enroll in two college-level classes and have the opportunity to build or enhance their visual arts portfolios. Rising Star participants have access to university facilities, including classrooms, computer labs, studios, production suites, libraries, galleries, theaters, bookstores and fitness centers. Students live in a SCAD residence hall and have their meals at a SCAD dining facility. All courses are taught by SCAD professors; maximum class size is 20 students. A closing exhibition of student work is held at the end of the program.

The St. John’s Summer Academy offers participants a rich experience reading and discussing original texts in small discussion classes with faculty members experienced in guiding thoughtful and lively conversations. Summer College offers opportunities for students to explore possible majors, build resumes and portfolios, experience college life, get a feel for SU as an option for undergraduate study, and earn college credit. With approximately 250 students and an average class size of 15, Summer College provides a great deal of individual attention to students. Tulane University-Career Explorations in Architecture

Architecture is a discipline within the liberal arts and a career requiring professional training. High school students considering career options may have had little opportunity to become acquainted with the unique blend of visual orientation, creative process, academic investigation and professional training that forms an architectural education. Career Explorations in Architecture is designed to offer students a short intensive introduction to architecture to help them make informed decisions about their direction in post-secondary education and beyond. Students will spend their three weeks in the School of Architecture exploring the ideas, methods, and issues of architecture. Lectures, field trips, discussions, critiques, and other activities during the four-hour daily class session will be supplemental by regular design exercises to be completed outside class time. Students will sample the intensity as well as the subjects of a collegiate architecture curriculum.

The 54th Annual UF-SSTP is a seven-week residential research program for selected rising seniors who are considering medicine, science, math, computer, or engineering careers. The program emphasis is research participation with a UF faculty research scientist and his/her research team. Students engage in the on-going research of their faculty mentor for 30 hours each week, attend lectures by researchers on current topics, and participate in a UF honor’s seminar class. Students enrolled in a Florida high school have the option to earn up to six dual enrollment credits. Weekend events include social and service activities, as well as field trips to a theme park, the Ichetucknee River and other fun Florida places of interest. Participants gain effective leadership communication and skills through small group discussions, oral presentations, workshops, and practical experiences.

Science Quest will immerse rising tenth graders in various bench and field laboratories to stimulate interest and appreciation for the range of college and career opportunities available in science.
