Over the winter break Lake Highland’s band students participated in the annual Florida Bandmasters Association’s Solo and Ensemble Festival. Our students received 34 superiors out of the 45 events entered.
US Drama:
-The US spring musical All Shook Up has 57 cast members—the largest US cast in at least ten years. This fun-packed show set in the rock ‘n’ roll year of 1955 has Elvis Presley music and a plot inspired by Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and it promises to be a blast!
-US Drama’s returned home for their first New York City trip.
-LHP Thespian Troupe #2449 had a wildly successful District Festival at Dr. Phillips High School. Each high school can only take 5 performance and 3 technical events forward to State, but we earned 17 Superiors this year, shattering our record of 12 Superiors from last year!
Music:
Six LHPS students performed with All State music groups at the Florida Music Educators Association Convention in Tampa.
Alumni News
-Jonathon Burnett, Class of 2011, is the winner of the 2011 Florida Educational Data Systems Scholarship!
-Alumni studying abroad this year include Patrick Hurlburt (England) Class of 2008, Paul Brownlee (Germany) Class of 2008 and Bailey Hurlburt (England) Class of 2009. Neil Candelora (2008) was selected by Columbia College to attend a week-long music recording studio program in Germany.
-J.J. Hill Class of 2005, graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology and has now received a Masters Degree from University of Sydney in NSW, Australia with a Masters in Applied Science of Microscopy & Microanalysis
