Dear Upper School Parents:
This afternoon we held our annual End of the Year Celebration. This is a special look back at the school year presented by student government and other student body members to celebrate the year that was. In conjunction with that, we have posted special academic recognitions online: for access click here and use the password: kudos
Earlier this week seniors Rand Deuchler and Abby Whitaker attended The Community Blood Centers of Central Florida annual recognition luncheon for schools that have participated with them in blood drives this year. Our students came home with a huge second place trophy and the news that this school year we had a total of 132 completed donors, saving 396 lives!

Advanced Placement (AP) Testing: Our chance to shine!
AP testing begins this Monday, May 7. All students in an AP class this year are required to, and have committed to, take the AP test. Test times are dictated by the College Board and cannot be changed. If your child is unable to attend a test period due to severe illness or other serious obstacle, please call the upper school attendance office so that we do not hold up a room of anxious test takers waiting for a no-show. On days when a student has an AP exam, he/she is only required to attend the exam, not the rest of his/her classes. Students are not excused from classes on the day preceding an exam to prepare. Students have been preparing all year and do not need to “cram” the day before a board exam. Students should arrive at 7:30 for an 8:00 A.M. exam and at 11:30 for a noon exam. Exam locations have been announced by the AP teachers. Should your child take the exam seriously? Absolutely! Exam scores are reported to colleges during the application process, and they very often satisfy college graduation requirements- many of our students shave a semester or two off of their required studies at university with AP credits. Some seniors think that because their college may not accept AP scores it no longer matters – many Highlanders have started at an out of state college and later transferred to one that does accept AP credits. Success on the tests matters to everyone. Our AP pass rates are excellent and reflect well on the school, which helps every current and future Highlander as they work to impress colleges with the rigor of the curriculum they have completed. Dress code: Students may wear spirit day attire. Bring a sweater in case the testing room is too cold for individual taste.
