Scheduling a visit to LHPS:

 

Our school day runs from 7:55 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.  If at all possible, we try to follow the visit schedule shown below.  Generally, visits can be arranged during the following days and times*:          

                        MWF               TTh

                        9:15 a.m.        8:10 a.m.

                        11:15 a.m.      10:20 a.m.

                        1:45 p.m.

           

*During the week of the Orlando area college fairs (typically the first week of October), LHPS will use the following visit schedule to accommodate as many representatives as possible:

                        Monday - Friday

                        8:10 a.m.        11:15 a.m.

                        9:15 a.m.        1:45 a.m.

                        10:20 a.m.

 

Generally, college rep visits are held in the College and Career Center.  Any interested Upper School students are welcome to attend with the permission of teachers whose classes they will miss.

Directions to LHPS:

 

-         From I-4 North or South, use exit 84 (old exit 42), Lake Ivanhoe Boulevard. 

-         Follow signs toward downtown via Orange Avenue. 

-         From Orange Avenue, turn left onto Marks Street.  Follow to intersection of Marks Street and Highland Avenue. 

-         Representatives can enter LHPS from Highland Avenue or Marks Street.  The College and Career Center is located in the Calkins Library.  The Calkins Library is behind the Rex Building (the big domed building).

In order to offer you something a little different, several members of the LHPS community were asked to list some of their favorite local restaurants/eateries.  Below are their choices.  NOTE:  Some of these restaurants are only open for lunch.  You might want to call ahead to ask about hours of operation.

 

Anthony’s Pizza – 100 N. Summerlin Avenue, Orlando, FL  32801, Tel: 407-648-0009.  Especially great for pizza.

 

Dexter’s – 808 E. Washington Street, Orlando, FL  32801, Tel: 407-648-2777.  Located in Thornton Park, Dexter’s is a great combination of bar and café.  Great sandwiches, unusual entrees, and a tremendous selection of wines and beers, along with a full-service bar with specialty martinis.  Local artists exhibit their work on the walls, giving the place color and atmosphere, and it’s a favorite after-work place for young professionals to stop off for a drink and quick dinner.

 

Gabriel’s Submarine Sandwich Shop – 3006 Edgewater Drive, Orlando, FL  32804, Tel: 407-425-9926.  Great subs, located just south of Edgewater H.S.

 

Harvey’s Bistro – 390 N. Orange Avenue, Orlando, FL  32801, Tel:407-246-6560.  Located at the corner of Orange Ave. and Livingston St. on the ground floor of the Bank of America building.  Customers can park in the attached garage on Livingston St.

 

Little Saigon Vietnamese Restaurant – 1106 E. Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL  32803, Tel: 407-423-8539.  Serves really authentic and delicious Vietnamese cuisine.  Close to LHPS, inexpensive, and fast.

 

Logan’s Bistro – 802 Virginia Drive, Orlando, FL  32803, Tel: 407-898-5688.  American fare, great for lunch, just around the corner from LHPS.

 

Mama B’s Giant Subs – 692 N. Orange Avenue, Orlando, FL  32801, Tel: 407-422-7353.  Arguably the best subs in town.  Long line during lunch hour, but worth the wait.

 

NYPD Pizzeria – 373 N. Orange Avenue, Orlando, FL  32801, Tel: 407-872-6973.  While there’s an abundance of pasta selections, we recommend you try their pizza.

 

O’Boys Real Smoked Bar-B-Q - 601 W. Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL  32804, Tel: 407-425-6269.  The Bar-B-Q is sliced, chopped, or pulled and is delicious.  The sauce is hot, sweet, or mild.  The BBQ lunch plate has slaw and baked beans, plus fries and Texas Toast and costs about $7.  There’s also a location on Fairbanks Avenue in Winter Park.

 

PR’s Mexican Restaurant – 499 W. Fairbanks Avenue, Winter Park, FL  32789,

Tel: 407-645-2225.  Great food, casual atmosphere.  If you’re lucky, a train will pass by while your there.

White Wolf Café – 1829 N. Orange Avenue, Orlando, FL  32804, Tel: 407-895-9911.  Bohemian atmosphere, vintage antiques, and really great food.  This is a restaurant and antique store all in one.

 

For those representatives with generous perdiums, we recommend the following:

 

Del Friscos Prime Steak and Lobster – 729 Lee Road, Orlando, FL  32810, Tel: 407-645-4413.  One of the more popular steak restaurants in town (Also one of the more expensive).

 

Hue – A Restaurant – 629 E. Central Boulevard, Orlando, FL  32801, Tel: 407-849-1800.  Progressive American cuisine.  If you seek trendy, then this is the place to eat.  Located in Thornton Park, this is where the movers and shakers of Orlando wine and dine.
