Service Scholar Program-

Florida State University is offering ten to fifteen scholarships to incoming freshmen that have demonstrated excellence in service and leadership in planning and promoting service among their peers.  This program recognizes students’ past achievements while enabling students to continue their commitment to community involvement while in college.

Going into its twelfth year, the Service Scholar Program has been a dynamic force in the Florida State community.  By participating in this exciting program, students are prepared for and encouraged to become leaders for and in service.

Sam Walton Community Scholarship-

The scholarship is a non-renewable $1,000 award for the first year of undergraduate study at an approved accredited college or university. The student must be a graduating high school senior and may not be a Wal-Mart or Sam’s Club associate, or the child or legal dependent of a Wal-Mart of Sam’s Club associate.

McKelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarship-

A $40,000 scholarship that is available to all high school seniors who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit by owning and operating their own businesses while in high school.  To qualify, you must graduate high school in the Spring of 2008, attend a 4 year college or university, private or public, with the 50 states, own and operate a genuine business, non-profits are eligible, and have at least one employee, even if only part time.  Scholars are not selected based on academic achievement or financial need. Awards are based solely on demonstration of entrepreneurial spirit.

Ronald A. Hammond Scholarship-

The Ronald A. Hammond Scholarship (RAH) is a full tuition scholarship awarded to Florida high school seniors who have excelled academically while demonstrating the need for diversity through student activities and/or community service.

Lawson Scholarship-

This Scholarship is awarded to a first year student entering University in the fall semester of 2008.  This is a merit based scholarship that honors scholastic achievement and aptitude, community service and faith commitments. The scholarship is $11,000 per academic year and can be renewed for up to four years.  Renewal is contingent on the recipients maintaining a minimum 2.75 GPA and contributing to the development of philosophical reflection and ethical decision-making in the University community as a whole.

The Kalon Leaders Scholarship Program-

The Kalon Leaders Scholarship Program was started in 1984.  It serves as an extension of our commitment to the recognition of students who possess special leadership potential, and will contribute to the Bethany Community.  Participants will compete for 10 Kalon Awards.  Each award amounts to $10,000 ($2,500 each year, renewable for up to four years).  Award maintenance is dependent upon student involvement in the College community, a good citizenship record and a minimum cumulative 2.5 grade point average.

J. Ollie Edmunds Distinguished Scholarship-

The J. Ollie Edmunds Distinguished Scholarship will be awarded to two outstanding first-year students in the Fall of 2008.  Honoring one of Stetson’s most notable past presidents and an alumnus of the university, this prestigious academic-based award will include full undergraduate tuition, fees, on-campus housing, meals and books for four years. Candidates for this scholarship program must meet the following minimum requirements.

-         Secondary grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale;

-         Student ranking in the top 5% of the senior class, provided your institution ranks students;

-         Possessing an ACT composite score of at least 30 or a minimum combined SAT-I score of 1350 (former SAT-I scoring component of Verbal and Math or current SAT-I scoring components in Critical Reasoning and Math).

Candidates must also demonstrate that they are well-rounded, creative, active participants in sports or fitness activities; are strong communicators; are leaders through participation in co-curricular activities and community service and exhibit the potential to impact and enrich the lives of their fellow students at Stetson as a role model.

The 2008 Burger King Scholars Program-

The Burger King Scholars Program is offering a $1,000 scholarship to all eligible high school seniors brought to you by The Have It Your Way Foundation.

Applicants must be high school seniors who:

-         Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher

-         Work part-time an average of 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year

-         Actively involved in community service activities

-         Demonstrate financial need

-         Plan to enroll in an accredited two/or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school by Fall of the application year

The Joseph M. Geisinger Scholarship Program-

Joseph M. Geisinger created a trust fund to provide scholarship support to forward the careers of students pursuing degrees in engineering at the University of Michigan.  Scholarships will be award to six first-year students admitted to the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor for the 2008-2009 academic year.  Scholarship support is for four years of undergraduate study or through graduation, whichever is less, and annual renewal is contingent on satisfactory academic progress.

The John V. Lombardi Scholars Program-

The University of Florida is proud to announce the seventh year of our Lombardi Scholarship Program named after our ninth president, John V. Lombardi.  Eight students who exemplify his commitment to excellence, community service, and public responsibility are selected each year to be John V. Lombardi Scholars.  In addition to a substantial educational stipend, Lombardi Scholars are given the opportunity to pursue research with some of the University’s most talented faculty and to enhance their academic interests through study abroad and internships.

Nominees for the award must rank at or near the top of their class; demonstrate significant academic achievement through course work, writing and research, service to the community, student and community leadership, and evidence of a strong moral character.

The SCAD Distinguished Scholars Award-

The Savannah College of Art and Design is offering this exciting new

Scholarship in the amount of $18,000 per year, for top students who are

nominated.  Students must be recommended for this award by their arts

teacher or school counselor.  This scholarship is applicable toward tuition at SCAD-Savannah, SCAD-Atlanta or SCAD-eLearning and may be renewed annually provided the recipient is enrolled and maintains a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

The nominated students should have at least a 1220 SAT combined math and critical reading score; or at least 27 ACT composite score, 3.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale, outstanding visual arts, performing arts or writing talent, honors and awards from competition or other recognition, and leadership demonstrated through co-curricular or extra-curricular involvement.

The YES Competition-

This competition was launched to increase awareness of the health threats from an avian flu pandemic to obesity to natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, that our nations faces every day.  Talented high school students can bring awareness to these threats while presenting career options and may one day help prevent a disease outbreak or find answers to a challenging health problem.  At the same time, this competition encourages the type of critical thinking and problem-solving skills that will serve students well in any field or endeavor.  To enter, students submit a research project that sheds light on a health problem, using the methods employed by epidemiologists.  Finalists can receive up to $50,000 in college scholarships to help them pursue their educational dreams.

National Co-op Scholarship-

The National Commission for Cooperative Education, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing high quality, college-level cooperative education is offering the Nation Co-op Scholarship.  As the largest independently sponsored merit co-op scholarship in the U.S., the National Commission on behalf of ten (10) NCCE Partner Colleges and Universities will award one hundred-eighty five (185) merit co-op scholarships of $6,000 each, for a renewable value of $4,500,000.

To be eligible for a merit co-op scholarship a student must apply and be accepted at one of the ten NCCE Partner Colleges and Universities listed below, all of which have strong co-op programs.

Carnegie Mellon University Scholarships-

Carnegie Mellon University offers several academic scholarships to incoming freshmen.  They are designed to recognize and reward outstanding academic, artistic and personal achievement.  Financial need is not a requirement.  These scholarships are renewable for eight semesters of undergraduate education (10 for architecture students).

 

Andrew Carnegie Scholarships-  This scholarship is worth half the cost of tuition and are awarded to students in business, computer science, engineering, the fine arts, information systems, the liberal arts or the sciences.

Carnegie Mellon University Scholarships-  This scholarship is worth at least half the cost of tuition and are awarded to students in business, computer science, engineering, the fine arts, information systems, the liberal arts or the sciences.

Judith Resnik-Challenger Scholarships-  This scholarship is worth half the cost of tuition and are awarded to students in computer science, engineering, information systems or sciences.

Presidential Scholarships-

This scholarship ranges from between $1,000 and $12,000 and are awarded to artistic and academically talented students whose families qualify for little or no need-based assistance.

Central Florida Marine Corps Foundation Scholarship-

The Central Florida Marine Corps Foundation (CFMCF), as an active and supportive member of the local community, provides scholarships to deserving undergraduate students.  The Foundation will award up to $10,000 in scholarships in 2008.  No scholarship will be less than $500, nor will any scholarship be more than $2500.  The Foundation’s scholarships are available to students from Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties who are registered/accepted into an accredited Junior College, four-year college, or university.  The actual award of scholarship funds to students will require future proof of enrollment at the college/university to which the applicant has been accepted.

Middleton Lawn & Pest Control’s “What’s Bugging You?” Youth Achievement Award-

This competition seeks to learn what’s on the minds of Florida’s high school seniors by giving them a voice and opportunity to express their insights and opinions, as well as a chance to win money to help with their upcoming college expenses. Middleton is offering a $2,000 Achievement Award to each of 6 overall winners, 3 from the Written Category and 3 from the Visual Category. Also, one winner from each of the 22 participating counties will receive a $500 Achievement Award.

National High School Chef of the Year-

Johnson & Wales University is pleased to announce the National High School Chef of the Year contest, with more than $600,000 in scholarship awards.  Two grand-prize winners of this year’s culinary competition in the junior/senior division will each receive full-tuition scholarships.  Each first runner-up will be awarded a $7,500 renewable tuition scholarship; each second runner-up a $5,000 renewable tuition scholarship.  All other finalists will receive $3,500 renewable tuition scholarships.

Joseph Kroskosz Scholarship-

The Knights of Columbus, Council 6624, St. Cloud-Kissimmee, has established this scholarship for deserving students.  The scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $1,000 for one academic year.

Applicants for the Joseph Kroskosz Scholarship must meet the following criteria’s:

-         a graduating senior from any public or private high school

-         a parishioner of a Roman Catholic Church in Osceola County

-         provide evidence of acceptance to a religious seminary, convent, an accredited junior college or university

-         must have 2.00 GPA or better at the end of the first semester of the senior year

-         must have a minimum score of 15 of the ACT or 700 on the SAT

-         must be an American citizen

VFW Voice of Democracy Contest-

The VFW Voice of Democracy Contest is a national patriotic speech writing competition open to 9-12th grade students.  To enter the competition, a student records a short, 3-5 minute speech expressing their interpretation of the assigned patriotic theme.  This years theme is “My Role in Honoring America’s Veterans,” and the grand prize is a $30,000 scholarship with other prizes along the way.
